Chaperone policy returns at Knott's Berry Farm (2024)

BUENA PARK, Calif.— After relaxing the chaperone policy earlier this year, Knott's Berry Farm is once again asking adults 21 years and older to accompany their young guests at the theme park.

What You Need To Know

  • Knott's Berry Farm is reimplementing its chaperone policy starting Saturday

  • Under the policy, visitors 15 years or younger must be accompanied by adults 21 years or older to enter or remain in the park

  • Knott’s Berry Farm initially implemented the rule after several high-profile incidents and fights at the theme park last summer

  • The Buena Park theme park had relaxed its chaperone policy earlier this year

Starting Saturday, Knott’s Berry Farm will re-institute the chaperone policy they initially implemented last July after teenage fights in the park.

Under the new chaperone policy, an adult at least 21 years old must accompany visitors 15 or younger to enter and remain inside the theme park after 4 p.m. until closing. An adult chaperone can accompany as many as 10 young guests.

Knott's officials said they would check the chaperone's identification card and would need to accompany their party when they enter, remain inside, and be available by phone throughout their stay.

Teenage visitors without a chaperone will get kicked out, Knott's Berry Farm officials said.

The chaperone policy applies to Knott's Berry Farm and Soak City Waterpark.

"We believe these changes will help ensure that Knott's Berry Farm and Soak City Waterpark continue to have a positive atmosphere where generations of families and friends can gather for a day of safe, fun and good food," Knott's Berry Farm officials said. "Millions of guests have counted on us for exactly that, and we will continue to deliver on that promise for generations to come."

Knott's Berry Farm officials did not return a Spectrum News message for additional comment.

Knott's Berry Farm initially instituted the chaperone policy after several high-profile and publicized incidents and fights, mostly by teenage visitors, forced the closure of the Buena Park theme park last summer.

Knott's Berry Farm cracked down on the unruly behavior and originally required a chaperone 21 years or older to accompany visitors 17 years and younger on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The theme park relaxed the policy in February but reimplemented it again, starting April 22, before the often crowded summer season.
